Eyeliner has been used for centuries by men and women alike. It is most famously linked to ancient Egypt, where it was used for fashion purposes, to protect the wearer’s eyes from the blazing desert sun, and even to ward off evil spirits. You could say it was a multipurpose tool of sorts! Eyeliner is also strongly linked to the gothic and punk scenes, where it was and is still heavily used. There are many different types of eyeliner in a variety of textures, such as khol, powder, wax, and liquid. Powder makeup eyeliner (in a wooden pencil form) and liquid eyeliner are the most commonly used, and can be found in any sort of convenient or grocery store for a reasonable price. In my opinion, liquid is the easiest eyeliner to use, but it all boils down to the look you’re going for. Experiment with your eyeliner and see what works best for you! Gurl.com has a great article on eyeliner for beginners, and it’s a great place to familiarize yourself with the wide variety of tools available to you.
1. D.I.Y. Liquid Eyeliner Pencil
Did you run out of your favorite liquid eyeliner? Don’t have time to go get yourself some more? Take the end of a regular pencil eyeliner and hold it under a flame for just a second. Give it a good 15 seconds to cool – you don’t wanna burn yourself! After it’s cooled a bit, use as needed. The flame will have made the pencil soft and pliable, therefore making it easier to apply. Like I said before, I find liquid eyeliner is the easiest eyeliner to use, so if you’ve got some leftover pencils you think you won’t ever use again, try melting them down a little bit to make your makeup stash last that much longer.
